So much happening....

I cannot believe the school holidays are coming to the end! Kids have only one full day left and then its back to routine, no more sleep ins, lazy days, fun days lol. Don't know who is more sadden by the holidays being over, me or the kids! So we have a fun day planned tomorrow with movies, lunch,  shopping and fun!

So not only does school start 1st Feb but I have a busy month approaching with DT commitments and blog hops, so exciting so here is just a little taste of what I have been up too :) please make sure you come back in a few days to check it all out!

Dress

Try as we may sometimes its just hard to keep at it and find the time to scrap layouts. So this year I have joined a wonderful motivational group over at Scrapbooking Haven led by the very lovely Lisa who has started a '52 Layouts' group and each week she puts up a challenge for us to help get our mojo going. This past week the challenge was 'Waste not, Want not' and we were required to use some form of discarded packaging. Excellent, we are always looking for ways to use up our stash and the pretty packaging it comes in :) and you got to love recycling!! so below is my take on Lisa's challenge.

I was happy I used some of my old papers from my huge stash! The photo is of my dd on Melbourne Cup Day and her school class were required to dress up, such a big event here in Australia, as they say "its the race that stops a Nation' :)

Glitz Design Paper, Bazzill, TH distress ink - black soot, Kaiser Bling, Bella Chipz Alpha's, Kaiser Blossoms and Manor House leaves.

I cut out a mini dress form from Prima Say it in Pearls packaging and used the Prima Say it in Crystals packaging as a photo backing mat.

Now to go see what Week three's challenge is, something about Collections! That should be easy with an ever growing stash and my addiction with Prima flowers and chipboard!

Sweet Nothings

Oh I am so loving these school holidays although I always seem to be doing something, going somewhere and not getting a great deal done, we have had a wonderful start to 2012 and I have been luckily enough to sit and scrap so here is what I have been up to for SFTH so go check them out and don't forget to like their FB page or if your lucky enough to live South of the River and are in the Canning Vale area drop in for a visit  :)

Tissue Tape

At Let’s Scrap the DT girls have been asked to do tutorials and Today was my turn to share something so I am going to show you a very easy and quick alternative to Tissue Tape or Washi Tape :) as these have become so popular I thought it would be the perfect time to show you how you can get a similar effect and a whole lot cheaper! You will need some common scrapbooking supplies and I am certain we all have inks and stamps among our stash.

So now for the step-by-step

Go to your pharmacy or chemist (drug store) and purchase 3M Tape or Micropore tape from the first aid section.   It is very similar to Tim Holtz Tissue Tape or for an even cheaper alternative masking tape. I prefer the softness of Micro tape but both work well.

Take a large ziplock bag (this protects your surface) and tear a length of tape and stick it.

Now using one of your favourite stamps and Stazon Ink (or archival ink), randomly stamp the image on the tape, continue repeating until you have stamped the required length.

When done use some distress ink and tool, ink it up and rub/distress over the tape. You can even do quite a lot of tape and then just roll it back up to use at a later time! Takes very little time and you can choose the correct colour for your project.

Looks great on layouts, cards or tags, concertinaed around edges etc, cover chipboard shapes or make the Tim Holtz popular tissue flower!

Tissue Tape Flower

First start with a base – punched circle.

Start on the outer edge and fold and gather a little bit, pinching and sticking, noting they don’t have to be perfect, turning the circle and continue around completing a full circle. Then you need to slightly move into the middle and complete another circle, pinching, sticking as you go, when you are happy and into the middle just tear off your tape.

Add some distress ink to the outer edges. Place a small button or gem as your flower centre. Fluff up the edges and you are done! There you go, one Tissue Tape flower top put on a layout or card!

Handmade flowers are still all the rage at the moment and the thing I like about these flowers, is the fact you can make them as big as you want LOL, they virtually cost nothing, which in today’s economy is a really good thing, this means more money to spend on other craft essentials.

Smash it!

Happy New Year

SMASH books from K&Company or EK Success are the new craze. Not yet here in Australia to my knowledge but not to worry, like many other scrappers I am attempting to make my very own :)

Firstly, I took a heap of papers (I have way too many and this is a great way to use some up!) and cut them to the desired size. My book is 8 1/2in x 6 in. You can make your book any size really!

Next I used my new bind it all and punched

I add some pocket pages for memorabilia etc

and also cut some pages smaller and odd size just to add a little fun to my Smash book.

and that's it!  Now I need to go decorate my cover and start 'smashing' lol but first I have to go make one for my DD, she wants her own 'smash' book to do over the school holidays!

These handy little books are the perfect way to keep track of all your great ideas, doodles, trinkets and bits & bobs. Being 'old school' scrapbooking, you can jot notes in them, glue photographs, cards from friends, pictures from kids, your own doodles, newspaper clippings, movie ticket stubs - really any type of memorabilia you can think of will fit in one. They are supposed to be slapped (smashed) together, unlike many current scrapbooking techniques that require hours and hours to put together just one layout.

SMASHing is also a great way to use up all your odd bits of scrapping supplies, like those unused alphas, chippies or tags. I have also kept the off cuts to make tags or to use when decorating the inside pages. So pleased that I used up quite a lot of my paper 'stash' :)
